According to company’s press release (in Japanese) of July 26, it has now reached 5 million, which is less than 10% of overall Japan’s internet users. Again I think it is significant, representing almost half of the subscription base of Japan’s largest Yomiuri newspaper, though the nature of subscription is significantly different when comparing newspaper, which is at cost about $40 per month, and SNS, which comes usually free of charge.
Some demographics: Age 20’s accounts for more than 60% at mixi, while the same age group represents less than 20% in Japan’s internet usage. Male : Female=1:1.
