Japan‘s internet giant, Softbank, is reported (Yomiuri in Japanese yahoo asia) to acquire Vodafone Japan’s operation.
Softbank, with its Yahoo ADSL services, has pioneered the ADLS and FTTH usage in Japan since around 2001, making Japan’s ADSL rate cheapest in the world. On the other hand, the mobile charge in Japan is not as cheap as ADSL/FTTH. Given the number portability which is to introduced this November, I am sure the mobile charges in Japan too will going to be cheap as well. Interesting to see how the new Vodafone (not sure the name still so) will position itself against Docomo and AU.
